Old Cottage of Sarada Ma

The Sri Sri Matri Mandir is considered one of the best places to visit in the Bankura district of West Bengal.

On the 8th of April, a beautiful white marble statue of Sarada Ma was positioned in the temple at the exact spot where she was born. Even a palatial prayer hall was appended as an extension to the temple. The main mandir belongs to the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur Math.

The sacred relics of the holy mother are being conserved in the Garbha Mandira. On a daily basis, people worship her and the small Shiva Linga with observance and offerings.

It is said that after the birth of Sri Sarada Devi, the holy mother and the spiritual consort of Sri Ramakrishna, this village showed signs of affluence, which was apparently not so much in testament until her birth.

The foremost source of water for irrigation was the huge lake called AHER or MAYER DIGHI. As heard from the locals, Sarada Ma in her childhood used to cut grass for the cows in neck-deep water from this very tank.

Village folk and visitors usually bathe there for refreshment. In recent times water for irrigation comes from the reservoir of the nearby River Damodar.

Joyrambati is a beautiful and serene place. The clean thin air and the leisurely flowing Damodar river remind us of godliness. The rural atmosphere, trees, and meadows stretch as long as the eyes can see, and the scenic views are mesmerizing. All these features make the village a more attractive travel destination.

Apart from the main temple, you can also visit the water body called the Mayer Ganga (opposite the bus stand), Punnipukur (just beside Mother’s new house), and the Tutelary deity temple.

Statue of Vivekananda at Matri Mandir

There is another temple of Vivekananda monks and an orphanage boys’ school that is operated by the monks. A Narayanan temple is also there in the village, where a child below five years old is worshiped as God Narayana. This idiosyncratic experiment was commenced by Swami Nityanandaji Maharaj of Vivekananda Math. This was done to manifest the saying of “Shiva in Jiva.”

Culture is an integral part of this village and has woven itself into the life of Sarada Ma. It has seen several milestones for ages and is an important source of pilgrimage for followers all over.

You can visit the Sri Sri Matri Mandir in Joyrambati as part of your Jayrambati – Kamarpukur tour. This spiritual temple will surely rejuvenate your soul and will fill your life with blessings.
