You will easily get a bus from popular spots like Esplanade, Sealdah Railway Station, Howrah Railway Station, or Kolkata Airport to reach Victoria Memorial.

If you are not getting any direct bus, you can take a bus to Exide or Rabindra Sadan and walk from there. It’s a 5 min walk.

History of Victoria Memorial

The construction of the Victoria Memorial was suggested by Lord Curzon after the demise of Queen Victoria of England.

The foundation stone of this monument was laid on 4th January 1906 by the then Prince of Wales and was opened to the general public in 1921.

The total cost of construction of the Victoria Memorial was Rs.1,05,00,000.

In the museum, you can see more than 30,000 treasured artifacts including rare photographs, and paintings.
