If you are looking for an offbeat sea beach near Kolkata, then Baguran Jalpai can be an interesting option. We visited this beach last year and it is an ideal place to spend your weekend. This secluded beach is a hidden gem and is situated in the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal, close to Digha and Mandarmani.

The sea beach at Baguran Jalpai will welcome you with a cool breeze and a peaceful ambiance. The crowd here is way less than other popular sea beaches in West Bengal, making it an ideal spot to relax and rejuvenate.

How to reach Baguran Jalpai from Kolkata

By car:
It will take you about 4 hours to reach Baguran Jalpai sea beach from Kolkata by car.
To reach there, the ideal route is via Contai (Kanthi). After reaching here, you can take the Junput Road to reach Baguran Jalpai (about 14 km from Contai).
By Train:
If you want to travel by train, you can take any train from Howrah and get down at Contai Railway Station. Then you can take a shared jeep or hire an Auto to reach Baguran.

By Bus:
You can also take a Bus from Kolkata to Contai. From there take a shared jeep to reach Baguran.
We went there by car and started the trip early at around 5:30 AM on a Saturday. After having breakfast at Kolaghat, we reached Baguran at around 10:00 AM.
Hotels and resorts at Baguran Jalpai
There is only one hotel or resort to stay at Baguran Jalpai and that is the “Sagar Niralay Guest House.” This hotel/resort is spread across a large area and has the perfect ambiance for laying back and relaxing.
You will get a variety of accommodation options here, such as tents, cottages, and rooms. It has all the amenities for the guests. We stayed in a Cottage. The hotels offer various flooding and lodging packages based on the number of people in your group.
There were a few hammocks that were tied to the coconut trees. You can relax there if you want.

You can get a delicious lunch at the resort itself. The complete thali with Rice, Dal, Veggies, and appetizing seafood will soothe your soul. You can also get lobsters, pomfrets, and crabs.
There are also a few shacks in Baguran that serve hygienic seafood, fish, snacks, and refreshment drinks.

There are several things you can do at the Baguran Jalpai sea beach,
1. Enjoy the ambiance & serenity
The alluring natural beauty, the serenity, and the ambiance make Baguran Jalpai an ideal one far away from the crowds of urban life. The silence, mixed with the roaring sea waves, creates a mystical aura that is both thrilling and beautiful.
The ambiance and the atmosphere create the perfect spot for romantic dates. You can spend some quality time in isolation.
The golden stretches of sand are dotted with dense casuarina forest. Engulfing sea waves creates a magical spell and seems to take away all the negativities and anxiety.

2. Relax on the beach
Resting for long hours along the beach will make you forget all your worries and make you remember all the beautiful moments of life. The soft golden sands create a charming beauty, especially during the sunsets and sunrises.
3. Stroll along the beach
Just walk barefoot along the shore and feel the waves lapping at your feet. While lazily strolling, you’ll see numerous fishing communities spreading their nets on the beach.
You can also lie down on the beach, especially during the winter, and have a wonderful experience of sunbathing.
4. Chat with the local community
Several small fishermen’s villages border the outskirts of the beach. You can visit those local communities and have a friendly conversation with them. You will also get a glimpse of the fishing trawlers with nets drying on the sea beaches.

5. Spot Red Crabs
Another spectacular thing which you will enjoy on the beaches is the whimsical red crabs. The beach looked vibrantly red due to their presence. It is fun watching the crabs run like marathon runners and swiftly get into their holes.
Best time to visit Baguran Jalpai
You can visit this beach at any time of the year. But I would recommend you visit the beach during the cooler months, i.e., from November to February.
The temperature remains pleasant and comforting during this time, so sunbathing or strolling on the sands will be more enjoyable.
