How to reach Takdah Orchid Center

You can easily reach Takdah Orchid Center from the village of Takdah. Takdah is 64 kms from Siliguri.

Shared jeeps and cabs are available from Darjeeling as well as from Siliguri.

Its located at a distance of about 28 km from Darjeeling.


Takdah Orchid Center is located at Rangli Rangliot Tea Garden, Darjeeling, and is a famous tourist location near Tinchuley.

Takdah Orchid Center is located at a height of 4,000 feet and is surrounded by the sweeping beauty of beautiful green tea farms that dominate the slopes and valleys here.

It is just 30 minutes away from Lamahatta.

History of Takdah Orchid Center

The Orchid center is rooted in the deep history of the British era. The troops of British soldiers who were supposed to fight during World war 1 used to gather here.

Historical evidence reveals that Takdah was home to the second battalion of British soldiers.

Presently the Forest Department of the West Bengal Government maintains this remarkable orchid center.

The Takdah orchid center is one of the most appealing destinations in North Bengal. It was once the largest Orchid center in Asia.

It is the home to rare and beautiful varieties of blooming orchids. Many varieties of Himalayan orchids and wild orchids are conserved here.

The Orchid center also features a herbal grove that consists of medicinal plants specifically grown and cultivated for ayurvedic treatments and other medicinal purposes.


The orchid enclosure is designed like a park and visitors can spend a lovely time walking around.

During the month of October, the orchid center blooms with seasonal flowers and sprinkles a magical charm in the entire surroundings. Therefore you can visit the orchid center during this season.
