History of Takdah Orchid Center
When the Britishers were ruling India, Takdah was the habitat of the 2nd Battalion British Troops. Evidence is there for this and the troops were led to fight in WWI (World War I).
The entire garden we see today was selected as the gathering location for all the British soldiers. As time passed, the orchis center was pretty much neglected, however now, it is in really good form.
The Takdah Orchid Centre is under the Forest Department of the Government of West Bengal and is properly maintained. It boasts a variety of exquisite orchids that bring the age-old garden to life. The spot has hosted several tourists throughout the year, in recent times.

The Takdah Orchid Center is one of the most appealing destinations in North Bengal. It was once the largest Orchid center in Asia. It is the home to rare and beautiful varieties of blooming orchids. Many varieties of Himalayan orchids and wild orchids are conserved here. There are many rare cactuses in the nursery as well.
The Center also features a herbal grove that consists of medicinal plants specifically grown and cultivated for ayurvedic treatments and other medicinal purposes. This orchid enclosure is designed like a park and visitors can spend a lovely time walking around.
