About the Darjeeling Ropeway journey

I love the natural beauty of mountains, valleys, and streams. So during my recent trip to Darjeeling (my third visit), I decided to try out the Darjeeling Ropeway to experience the “Queen of Hills” and its tea gardens in a unique way.

We took a cab to Singamari and started our journey from the ropeway station. After a few minutes, the cable car ride offered us a stunning view of the tea gardens, the River Rangeet, and the Kanchenjunga peaks. I am a bit scared of heights, but I couldn’t miss this opportunity.

The cable car traveled for 20 minutes over the mesmerizing tea gardens reaching Tukvar, from where it turned back. We got off at Tunkvar. You can enjoy the views of the beautiful landscape from here. You can also stroll through the Tea Gardens at Tukvar and click some amazing photos. There is also a small restaurant where you can have a cup of tea while enjoying the views.

After spending about 30 minutes there, we came back to the ropeway station and boarded a Gondola to return back to Singamari. It took about 20 minutes to return.

It was an amazing experience to see the landscape from a high altitude. I was mesmerized by the sight of the hills, rivers, waterfalls, and flowers along the way. The river Rammam and Rangeet flowed peacefully below us. The ropeway is a must-visit for anyone who wants to experience Darjeeling from a different perspective and enjoy a memorable ride

History of Darjeeling Ropeway

Darjeeling Ropeway was initiated in 1968 and it was the first cable car system in India. The tea gardens or the valleys were not easily accessible at that time. To cater to this problem the cable car system was introduced.

From a single cable car, it has now grown to 16 gondolas that can carry six people each.

The cable car used to stop at Tukvar Village, Burnesberg, and Singla Tea Estate (one of the famous tea estates in Darjeeling), which is now owned by Jayshree Tea Company.

These are some points about the Darjeeling Ropeway. It is a remarkable attraction that showcases the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Darjeeling.

The scenic beauty that you can witness from it will stay forever in your hearts.
