2. Kalna 108 Shiv Mandir

Ambika – Kalna 108 Shiv Mandir, also known as the Nava Kailash Temple, is one of the holiest places in the Purba Burdwan district of West Bengal. The place comprises a total of 108 Shiva temples encircling a courtyard.

The temples of the Nava Kailash or the 108 Shiv Mandir are conjoint, with impressive domical structures, which are built out of At-Chala bricks.

The temples are built in two concentric circles centering a well, the outer arc having 74 temples and the inner circle having 34 temples, depicting a unique numerical combination inspired by the beads of rosary or Rudraksha.

The place is colorful too with extended green lawns in the temple premise itself. The gardens have various vibrant colored flowers enhancing the spiritual ambiance.

3. Kalna Rajbari Complex

Kalna Rajbari complex is one of the top cultural tourism spots in Kalna in addition to the famous Lalji Mandir and 108 Shiv Mandir. It represents the glorious past of Ambika Kalna.

During the 18th century, several glorious shrines were built under the zamindars and Maharajas of Bardhaman. The blend of the rich cultural aspects and architectural beauty of the place consists of temples, well-maintained lawns, and gardens.

4. Ujani Shaktipeeth

Goddess is worshiped in the form of Devi Mangal Chandika or Mangal Chandi and Vairabh is worshiped as Kapilambar in the sanctum sanctorum or the holy Garbha Griha.

Although this sacred site does not feature any unique architectural features, the atmosphere is filled with serenity. The Priests offer oil lamps and flowers every day. Devotees flock to this Maha Shakti Peeth with hopes and wishes in their hearts to convey to Devi maa.

5. Chupi Char

Chupi Char, located near Purbasthali, is another famous tourist spot in the Purba Bardhaman district. This beautiful place holds a special place in the hearts of wildlife lovers and nature enthusiasts. It is located on the banks of a beautiful Oxbow lake created by the Ganges. This lake is well-known for its crystal clear water and serene ambiance.

You can spot many migratory birds that visit Chupi Char Pakhiralay or the Lake, especially in the winter. There are also many orchards & flower gardens, and lush vegetation, typically covering the entire eastern portion of Chupi Char.

6. Bhalki Machan

Being a forested area, Bhalki Machan is dominated by calmness and beauty. It is located in Kusumgram in the district of Purba Barddhaman. Apart from its natural beauty, the place also has an interesting history.

It is said that the place was used by the Zamindars to hunt wild animals. They would build watch towers and then wait for the wild creatures, especially bears, to come to the area. They would then encounter them with guns, bows, and arrows. This is also the reason why the name of the place was given Bhalki Machan. Bhalki was derived from ‘Bhaluk’ meaning Bear in the local language and Machan, which translates to ‘Watch Towers.’

While venturing through the jungle, you will come across the four brick towers standing tall. It is also believed that there are tunnels beneath the towers made by the erstwhile zamindars. Another attraction of Bhalki Machan is the lake in the middle of the rich flora. The environment is enchanting and is for those who truly admire nature and the history sneaking into it.
