Equipment

  • 1 Induction Cooktop
  • 1 Tawa

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour or Maida
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Castor Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 2-2½ tbsp Sour Curd
  • 1 cup Milk
  • ½ tsp Baking Soda
  • 1-2 tbsp Garlic finely Chopped
  • 2-3 tbsp Coriander leaves finely chopped
  • Butter
  • 1 tbsp Sesame seeds optional

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  • First, take a large mixing bowl and add all-purpose flour (Maida).
  • To this, add the castor sugar, salt to taste vegetable oil, and baking soda.
  • Mix and combine everything nicely.
  • Next, add the sour curd to the dry dough mix.
  • Slowly start to mix them.
  • Combine everything really well.
  • Heat the milk in a pan until warm.
  • Next, start to add the warm milk to the dough mix. Add slowly and consistently.
  • Keep on kneading the dough until soft and smooth. Do it for about 10 minutes.
  • After that, take some oil on the palm and grease the surface of the dough ball.
  • Cover the bowl with a wet kitchen towel and keep aside for about 1 hour. You can also let it rest for long.

Prepare the naan

  • After the dough has rested well, knead it once more for about 3-4 minutes.
  • Next, divide the dough ball into 8 small portions.
  • Make the portions into balls.
  • Next, take a rolling board and a rolling pin.
  • Spread some flour on the rolling board. Take a small dough ball on the board and start to roll.
  • Make it into a circular dish. You can even make it in an oval shape. Spread flour while rolling.
  • Put the finely chopped garlic, coriander leaves, and the sesame seeds. Roll it once again so that it sticks well to the dough.
  • Next, turn over the rolled dough and expose the other side of it.
  • On this empty surface apply some water. Spread it evenly but not too much. This will help to stick the dough on the tawa.

Make the naan

  • Now, take the tawa and turn on the flame. Keep the flame on medium.
  • Put the tawa on the flame and carefully place the watered side of the rolled dough on the tawa.
  • Slightly press it in the tawa to ensure that it sticks well.
  • When the upper part of the nun starts to rise well from all over, lift the pan and flip it upside down.
  • Move it slowly and steadily over the flame to cook the top part. Keep the flame on medium and make sure not to burn it.
  • Keep on moving it over the flame until the entire upper part and the edges are baked to perfection.
  • By now the nun will be baked well. Now, take it away from the flame and carefully separate it from the tawa by using a spatula. It will come out smoothly.
  • Spread butter as soon as you separate it from the tawa.
  • Repeat it with all the portions of dough.
